Donald Lee "Donnie" Payne

Donald Lee "Donnie" Payne - 65, of Kentville, formerly of Bear River East, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a long period of ill-health. Born on September  15, 1949 in Bear River East, he was the only son of Joy (Maling) and Henry Payne. He is survived by his mother, Joy Dorey; stepsisters, Julia Ellis (Walter) and Ferne Mullins; cousin, Dianna Cameron and her son, Andrew. He was predeceased by his father, Henry; grandparents, Esther and George Maling and Catherine and John Payne; stepfather, Gerald Dorey; stepbrother-in-law, David Mullins. An electrician by trade, his working career was spent with the Department of National Defence, at CFB Cornwallis and later at CFB Greenwood. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying baseball, hockey, hunting and fishing, until ill-health forced him into early retirement. His later years were spent in Kentville, where he assisted his mother after the death of her second husband. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in the Clementsvale Baptist Church Cemetery, Pastor Herb Anderson officiating. Special thanks go out to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of the Valley Regional Hospital for their attention and efforts during these past few days. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
