Elizabeth Saunders Smith

Elizabeth Saunders (Levy) Smith - 90, of Wolfville, formerly of Greenwich, Kings County, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Wolfville Nursing Home. Elizabeth was born on Davidson Street in Kings County on March 15, 1925 to Merton and Vivian (Card) Levy. She was raised in Greenfield and enjoyed time with friends and family in her younger years. Elizabeth married Roy Smith of Mosherville, Hants County on September 15, 1943. They raised their family in Wolfville, while operating a meat store on Gaspereau Avenue. After selling the store, the family moved to Greenwich and Elizabeth worked at Zellers in the fabric department. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C. B. Lumsden Branch No. 74, Wolfville and a member of the New Minas Seniors Club. Elizabeth always enjoyed playing cards, attending bingo and hymn sings. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Dennis (Nellie) Smith, Charlottetown; her daughters, Judy (Arnold) Forsythe, White Rock; Caroline (Dennis) Schrieber, Sherwood Park AB; Nancy Rogers, Port Williams; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sue) Smith, Christopher Smith and David (Stacey) Smith, all of Charlottetown and Darren (Bev) Smith, Halifax; Angela (Doug) Clair, White Rock; Joanne (Kevin) Agnew, Milton, ON and Sylvia (Wallace) Berrey, Kentville; Dawn (Chris) Webb, Edmonton and Carrie Schrieber, Sherwood Park, AB; Tom Rogers, Leiden, The Netherlands and Michael Rogers, Port Williams; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Alexander Smith; Olivia, Campbell, Charlotte and Adrienne Smith; Megan Smith; Ryan Clair; Benjamin, Ethan and Ella Agnew; Lily and William Berrey. Elizabeth is also survived by her sisters, Irma Elliott, Wolfville Nursing Home; Marie Murray, Greenfield and Claudia (Alvin) McKay, Port Williams. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1995, two brothers, Harold in 1956 and Chester in 1957 and two brothers-in-law, Glendon Elliott and Clyde Murray. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Her children would like to express their sincere thanks to the volunteers and the staff at the Wolfville Elms and the Wolfville Nursing Home for their wonderful care of Mom for many years. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Parkinson Society of Canada, Maritime Region. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
