1923-2015

Katherine Flora Palmeter

Katherine Flora Palmeter - 92, of Medford passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 in the Annapolis Valley Regional Hospital with family by her side. Born in Delhaven, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Ellen (Strong) MacKeen. As a typical farm wife, she was always busy with cooking, canning, raising her family, and being the extra farmhand when necessary. Kaye was the do-it-yourself fixer in the family-from splicing wires to hanging wallpaper. She loved arts and crafts and tried her hand at many activities including ceramics, needlepoint, painting with oils and acrylics. Kaye loved to dance and enjoyed all types of music, especially the family sing-a-longs. She enjoyed socializing with friends in the Skating club, Lionettes and the regular card playing foursomes. She was a lifelong member of the United Church Women, a Life Member of the Medford Women's Institute and a Life Elder of Kingsport Emmanuel United Church. She took great enjoyment in her home, her gardens and watching the many birds that came into view. Kaye understood the importance of family and connections, of service and caring for others, of the importance of all coming together. She is deeply missed. She is survived by her daughters, Andrea (Eugene Rogers), Dr. E. Wanda George (Bill MacKeen), Sharon (Roy Lynk) and Jeanne Allen, all of Medford and son, Robbie of Dayspring; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Elliott; sisters, Frances and Margaret; brothers Cyril, Charles, Eldon and Keith and a grandson, Jay George. Visitation will be held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015.
