Greta Kathryn Levy
Greta Kathryn (Jordan) Levy – 89, passed away peacefully at Shannex, Kentville, August 30, 2015. Born in Newtonville on June 21, 1926 to Herb and Ella (Card) Jordan, she was one of nine children, two boys and seven girls. Her years in Newtonville were filled with helping her mother care for the younger children and the school teachers who boarded with them, and perfecting her culinary skills. She was a long-time resident of Wolfville and part of the Wolfville Ridge Club who catered for many special occasions. Greta and her sisters, Hazel and Lottie, were also well known for their own catering services. She was a faithful member of, and organist for, the Mountain Christian Centre, Gaspereau Mountain, as well as the secretary-treasurer of its Sunday School. In addition to making their house a home, Greta worked for Maritime Tel and Tel, Orin Levy Fuels Ltd, and at Acadia University in Wheelock Dining Hall as a ticket taker. She was the very proud and happy mother of Anna and Peter. Robert Jordan, her nephew, was welcomed into their family for his first two years and Greta cared for him as her own. Greta loved flowers and helping to harvest the produce from Orin’s garden. She will be remembered for her amazing pie, fresh bread, delicious turkey dinners and her beautiful bouquets of roses. Greta is survived by her daughter, Anna, Wolfville; son, Peter (Nancy), Wolfville Ridge; brother, David (Emelie) Jordan, Wolfville, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Orin, of 66 years; beloved sisters and best friends, Florence Wile, Hazel Rathbone, Lottie Messom, Edith Levy, Pauline Price, Mary Patterson, and brother, Joseph Jordan. Visitation will be held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015. A celebration of her life with reception following will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Pastor Bruce Patstone officiating. Burial will take place in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to Mountain Christian Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
