Hilda May Milligan

Hilda May (Moir) Milligan - 88, of Wolfville, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Dartmouth on January 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Stella (Garland) Moir. She attended Victoria Park and Greenvale schools in Dartmouth. At the age of five, she started piano and violin lessons with Pearl Daley, finishing at Mount Saint Vincent in Halifax. During the war, she was involved in musical groups in Dartmouth at the Sundae and Mayfair theatres and at various camp locations in Nova Scotia. She received her Registered Nurse designation from the VG Hospital, Halifax and worked at the Dartmouth Medical Centre and Colchester County Hospital, Truro. She married Bill Milligan in Truro and they moved to Dartmouth and later to New Minas, where he owned the White Spot Restaurant in New Minas, until his death in 1992. She was a member of the Kentville Lionettes, Meals-on-Wheels, Acadia Seniors and the Wolfville Lawn Bowling Club. She is survived by her children, Bill Jr. (Heather), Black River; Anne (Dave) Elias, La Crete, Alberta; Bob (Sue), Little River Lake; Jim (Nancy), Little River Lake; Doug, Avonport; Allan (Charlene), New Minas; a brother, Garland, Hantsport; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Bill, she was predeceased by a son, David; brothers, George and Roderick. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family graveside service will be held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
