Sybren Halbersma

Sybren Halbersma - 91, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at home. Born in The Netherlands, he was a son of the late Gauke and Geertje (Poortstra) Halbersma. Following his service to the Dutch Military, he immigrated to Canada in 1954. He has been employed with Canard Poultry for 30 years as a Poultry Grower, from where he retired. He was a devote Christian and active supporter of his church community, The Covenanters ARP Church. He was also an avid vegetable gardener. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna (VanDellen); five children, Gordon (Juvy), Woodville; Theresa VanderTuin, Kentville; Rudolph "Rudy" (Darlene), Coldbrook; Peter, Barrie, Ontario; Grace (Bradley) Joudrey, Burlington, Kings County; a brother, Klaas (Gelfke), The Netherlands; 11 grandchildren, Lyla, Phillip, Byron, Leanne Nicole, Justin, William R., Joseph D., Alieda, Christian, Dineke and Ryan; 4 great grandchildren, Terrace, Trevin, Kaelan and Airlyn; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Cornelia "Corrie" Miedema; a brother, Pieter, a son-in-law, Robert VanderTuin. Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 in The Covenanters ARP Church, 6185 Highway 1, Cambridge, Kings County, Reverend Mark Zylstra officiating. Burial will take place in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to The Bible Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
