Leona Edith Levy
1922-2015
Leona Edith Levy - 93, of Melanson, Kings County, passed away surrounded by family, Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Port Williams and raised in Wolfville, she was the daughter of the late Dennis A. and Beatrice (Greene) Lake. As a young lady, she was involved with Girl Guides and the Women's Volunteer Reserve Corps. She had also worked with the Royal Bank. Upon marrying, she moved to Melanson where she worked from home, supporting her husband with their company, S. G. Levy and Sons Ltd. Sawmill, as well as raising her family. Mom was always generous, kind, caring, gracious and welcoming. She was hard working and was always prepared with meals and lodging for extras, whether it be family, friends or customers. She patiently cared for her father and brother for extended lengths and opened her home for shorter stays to many extended family members for varying reasons. She was a strong woman of faith. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville, but became a lifelong adherent of Wallbrook United Baptist Church. She served her Lord, church family and community, especially in her work with the "Melanson Community Club". Mom enjoyed music, dancing, reading, cards, gardening and family gatherings. She will be dearly missed by all who came to know her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Levy; brothers, William Lake, Fredericton and Dennis E. Lake, Wolfville. She is survived by a son, Garth (Susan) Levy, Melanson; daughters, Marilyn (Leon) Sinclair, Aurora, Illinois, USA; Joan (Jim) Stirling, Wallbrook; Louise (Gary) Boyd, Lawrencetown, Halifax County; Sally (Dave) Fischer, Garlands Crossing; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a great great grandson. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in the Gaspereau United Baptist Church, Reverend Gary Manthorne and Reverend Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will take place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Melanson Community Hall. Donations in memory may be made to the Wallbrook United Baptist Church, the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
