Keith Basil Pettigrew

Keith Basil Pettigrew - 87, of Cambridge, Kings County, formerly of Kentville, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at home. Born in Newville, Cumberland County in 1928, he was the eldest son of the late Basil and Ruby (Graham) Pettigrew. He worked at the local hardware store in Springhill while going to secondary school and then drove for Acadia Lines. Keith was employed for a period of time as a sales representative for Eastern Bakery then accepted a job with the Baird Drug Company in 1958. In 1967 he formed PMed Supplies Limited, operating it until 1988 when he sold it to Atlantic Wholesalers. Keith was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #58 in Kentville, serving as Worshipful Master in 1974 and also served as a Grand Lodge Officer on two occasions. He was a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, Philae Temple in Halifax and was a Scottish Rite Mason where he proudly received his 33rd degree. He was knighted a member of the Royal Order of Scotland with jurisdiction over Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. He was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star being a member of Evangeline Chapter #15 and serving as Worthy Patron on four occasions. He was elected as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in 1985-86.  Keith enjoyed all aspects of Masonry and was an excellent ritualist. His influence in the lodge room was a result of his vast knowledge and experience, and his polished and well prepared work. Keith influenced and guided many Brothers in search of Light in Masonry. His devotion to the Supreme Architect of the Universe is a testimony to his zeal and fidelity. Keith is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Donna Brown, New Minas; Janice Pettigrew, Pugwash; Eric Pettigrew (Susan), Bridgewater; Barbara Harnish (Chris), Ontario; Paul Pettigrew (Tina Wambolt), Cambridge; son-in-law, Lyal Wooster, Kentville; daughter-in-law, Anne Keddy Pettigrew, Steam Mill; sisters, Kathleen Pettigrew, Amherst; Karen (Henry) Smith, Pugwash; brother, Kenneth (Catherine), Osgoode; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle, Kimberly, Ken, Mallory, Ashton, Sonya and Hilary; nine great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred (Henwood) (1963), his second wife, Elizabeth (Schofield) (2008); sons-in-law, Ken Brown (2007) and Garth Wooster (2014). Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a combined Order of the Eastern Star service, Masonic Lodge service and funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to Centreville Baptist Church or The Learning Centre for Dyslexic Children, Dartmouth.
