Stewart Roy Brown - 92, formerly of Hillaton and later Kentville, Kings County, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 7, 2016, in the Veterans Memorial Building, QEII Hospital, Halifax. Born in Hillaton on the family farm February 6 1923, Stewart was the son of the late Roy and Edna (MacKinlay) Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean (Forsythe), Kentville; two daughters, Shirley (George "Skip") Borgal, Halifax; Faye Brown (Bob Church), Kentville; son-in-law, Jim Campbell, Windsor Junction; five grandchildren, Colin Borgal (Judit Fabian), Ottawa; Lori Borgal (Richard Vout), Exeter, England; Corey Campbell, Windsor Junction; Derek Campbell, Windsor Junction; and Kaslyn Brown Grant, Kentville. He was predeceased by daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Campbell; three sisters, Gladys (George) Eaton, Inez (Wilson) MacFarlane and Thora (Archie) Chisholm. Stewart attended Lower Canard School and Kings County Academy.  After high school, he trained to become an instrument technician and served with RCAF 425 Alouette Squadron during WW II supporting Bomber Command operations from York, England. After the war he purchased the neighbouring property, operating a mixed farm with his father until 1967. He then worked at ACA Cooperative as the refrigeration and stationary engineer, followed by managerial positions with first Fristamat Ventilation, Hillaton and then with the Provincial Grain Commission facilities at Steam Mill and Nictaux until 1988. Stewart served on the executive of the Boards of Kings County Federation of Agriculture and ACA Cooperative. He was a charter member and later President of Canning Lions Club and active as a Trustee of Canning United Church and Hillaton Cemetery Committee. In his retirement ,Stewart enjoyed travel and family wherever they might be. He also kept his skills well tuned doing custom machinery and ventilation work, and grain-cleaning for local farmers. Being innovative and inventive throughout his life, Stewart constantly challenged himself to create the tool needed to get the job done. He particularly enjoyed helping others whenever he could. The family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Kings Riverside Court, Kentville, for their helpful support over the last few years, and to the nurses and staff of 4 Eastwood, VMB, for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 12, 2016, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 1 PM and a reception will follow.
