Margarete Ruth Dunlop

Margarete died peacefully on January 10, 2016 at her home in Kings Riverside Court, Kentville, NS at the age of 86. Born in November, 1929 in Italy, she spent her early life in Germany with her parents. As a young lady she set out for England where she met and married a dashing Royal Canadian Navy Officer, Bruce Dunlop. Together they moved to Canada settling in Halifax with the Navy. They moved throughout Canada during Bruce's career, including Victoria, Quebec City and Dartmouth to name a few. She had a career which comprised of Department Secretary in various Universities, including Dalhousie University, Acadia University and University of Alberta. Upon Bruce's retirement from the Navy in the early 1970's they moved to Wolfville, NS while Bruce pursued his education at Acadia University. Eventually they moved to Edmonton, Alberta and spent their retirement in that city. Margarete was always busy in her life and her retirement was no exception. Margarete gave countless hours and effort to various volunteer organizations, which she took great pleasure. After Bruce's death in 2013, Margarete moved back to Nova Scotia to the delight of her family here. Margarete was a gifted quilter, seamstress and had a passion for gardening which produced great pleasure for all around her. Her loves were her family of which would include many dogs throughout her life. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Bruce (LCdr Retired). She is survived by her daughters, Nikola Dunlop of Toronto and Joanne Maxwell (Robert) of Canning and grandchildren, Reghan Skerry; Paige Dunlop; Clayton Maxwell (Sheila), Sydney Australia; Neal Maxwell (Laura). She is also survived by her dear friend, Rita Vagovics and her cherished Suzie Q. Margarete's immeasurable kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 between 2 and 4 p.m. at Kings Riverside Court, Kentville. Donation in memory may be made to the Kings County S.P.C.A. or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
