Gerald Richard Medicraft - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Richard Medicraft, age 78, in Valley Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 17, 2016 peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born July 1st, 1937 in South Alton to his parents, the late Dolly Agnes (DeAdder) (Hamm) and Russell Reid Medicraft. In his younger years he worked in the woods and on the roads. He worked most of his career as a roofer. He was an avid outdoors man, including deer hunting, logging, beef cattle and gardening. He got great enjoyment from playing cards, working with his tractor, going for drives, but most of all he enjoyed visits with his family. He is survived by his cherished and loving wife of 53 years, Iris (Pelrene) Medicraft. He will be dearly missed by his four daughters, Lorenda Joy (Mark) Estabrooks, Timberlea; Christine (Stanley) Mitchell, New Minas; Lisa (Kendall Hiltz) Ford, North Alton and Shannon (Timothy Ross), Coldbrook; two sons, Richard, Kentville and Gary, South Alton; five treasured grandchildren, Jessica (Qizong) Wu, Windsor; Brandon Ford, North Alton; Devan Mitchell, Danielle Mitchell, New Minas and Ethan Medicraft, Coldbrook; sisters, Ethel (William) Wellwood, Wirral, NB; Margaret Leblanc, South Alton and half sister, Ellen Turbitt, New Minas; brother, Ralph of South Alton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Gerald was predeceased by brothers, Everett in infancy and half-brothers, Cecil, James and Wilson Hamm and a sister, Grace Beach. There will be no visitation by family request. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Virginia DeAdder officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Gerald may be made to South Alton Baptist Church, South Alton Community Centre or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
