Pearl Marguerite Schofield

Pearl Marguerite Schofield - 94, of New Minas, Kings County, passed away quietly at Shannex - Orchard Court in Kentville on Friday, January 22, 2016. Born in Pleasantville, Lunenburg County on November 19, 1921, she was the eldest daughter of the late Stephen Paul and Eveline (O’Leary) Lantz and one of nine children. She worked in child care until marrying Rex William Schofield of White Rock, Kings County in 1942. She joined the Women's Militia during the Second World War, training in First Aide and Home Security. After the war they moved to New Minas and shared 66 wonderful years together, built Rex's Electric Ltd. and had five children. Along with raising a family and building a business with her husband,  Pearl was active in the New Minas School's Ladies Auxiliary, and the New Minas Baptist Church. In church she taught Sunday School, prepared food for multiple events, was a Prayer Pal for Pioneer Girls and served in the Ladies Bible Study. She has now graduated to be with her Lord, to enjoy the reward of 'a good and faithful servant.' Pearl was predeceased by beloved husband, Rex William Schofield; daughter, Carol Lee Schofield; brothers, Charles Lantz and Gordon Lantz; sister, Gladys Rhodenhiser and son-in-law, Derek Critch. She is survived by children, Sharon (Peter) Merriam of Dartmouth; Deedra Critch (Peter Salonius) of Sussex, NB; R. Archibald (Janet) Schofield of Canaan and Douglas (Kathleen) Schofield of Kentville; grandchildren, Deborah Merriam (Michael Peckham), Joanne Merriam (Alan Slone), Matthew Critch, Brooke Chiasson, Iain (Megan) Chiasson, Andrew (Andrea) Schofield, Nicholas (Aoife) Schofield, Paula (Eli) Poole, Mark (Rachel) Schofield, Scott Schofield (Elizabeth Jackson), James (Connie) Schofield and Julia (Timothy) Smith; siblings, Arlene Brown of Meadowvale; Emily Conrod of Porters Lake; Phyllis Himmelman of Mount Pleasant; Lloyd (Lila) Lantz of Upper LaHave and Luetta (Keith) Joudrey of Pleasantville; sister-in-law, Annie Lantz, Alberta; 17 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the White Family Funeral Home in Kentville on Friday, February 5, 2016. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at the New Minas Baptist Church on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Daniel Cormier and Rev. Sterling Gosman officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made to the New Minas Baptist Church Refugee Fund, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Gideon's International of Canada. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
