Gertrude Lois Barlow

BARLOW, Gertrude Lois – 98, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Villa St. Joseph du lac, Yarmouth.  Born in Centreville, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late J. Roy and Ella (Burns) Margeson; also predeceased by her husband, Patrick (1992), her twin brother, Ernest (1993), elder sister, Hilda Reece (2009) and youngest sister, Edna Killam (2015). Mom learned to play the piano `by ear` at a very early age. Understanding that music has the power to touch the hearts of people young and old, she brought a great deal of happiness to many in the community, through the warmth of her piano playing. She was an avid bridge player, enjoying in-particular Duplicate Bridge. Being a former member of the Ken-Wo Golf Club, the Glooscap Curling Club, the Rebekah Lodge and many years with the choir of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, gave her much happiness. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Bob Hayes), Carp Ontario and her son, Bob (Pauline), Carleton, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia; grandsons, Gregory Hayes (Lorrie; daughters, Abby and Anna), Stittsville Ontario; Geoffrey Hayes (Kelsey Edwards), Ottawa Ontario and Travis Barlow (Tanya; son, Hunter),Halifax, Nova Scotia; Pauline’s son, Derek LeBoubon (Michelle; children, Lexi, Niam, Madison and Gabriella), Cox’s Cove Newfoundland and daughter, Michelle LeBoubon (Bob Maxwell), Cormack Newfoundland.  Mom leaves her sister, Muriel Blanchard; cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the Villa, particularly to those in the Sarah Corning Villa for the loving care and friendship during her reclining years. In keeping with Mom’s final wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. For those wishing, donations may be made to a charity of choice, in Gertrude’s memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
