Madeline Mason

Madeline (nee Mills) Mason - died peacefully in her sleep at Northwood Centre, Halifax on May 6, 2016.  She was 79.  Born in Marystown, Newfoundland she was the daughter of the late John "Jack" and Mary (Reid) Mills.  Madeline was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she met her second husband, the late Richard A. Mason.  Madeline is survived by sisters, Sophia Stack (Edward), Ottawa; Annunciata Slaney (John) and Margaret Ann Martin (Derek), Nova Scotia; brothers, Bill (Nora), Marystown, NL and George, Nova Scotia; son, David Drake (Tammy Munroe), Kentville; daughters, Susan Drake-Crowell (Doug), Kentville; Andrea Drake (Paul Clarke), Halifax; Loriann Drake (Scott Crowell), Hortonville; four grandchildren, Nicole Drake, Halifax; Tasha Drake, Zach Crowell and Michael Drake, all of Kentville and her first husband, Harrison W. Drake, Kentville. She was predeceased by her second husband and love of her life, Richard A. Mason; oldest son, Robert Harrison John Drake; sister, Lillian Turpin (Tom) and brother, Jack Mills. Madeline was artistic and opened a ceramic studio in downtown Kentville in the 1970's.  She also painted with acrylics, knit, sewed, and did embroidery and crewel work.  Homes of family and friends are decorated with some of her work. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service followed by a reception will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Belcher Street, Kentville. A private interment at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only please.  Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or any branch of the SPCA. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
