Floyd Albert Barkhouse

Floyd Albert "Benny" Barkhouse – 81, of New Minas, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, Kings County, he was a son of the late Harold and Elsie (Hiltz) Barkhouse. He had been employed as manager of the IGA in Wolfville for 30 years and later worked as a custodian for the Wolfville High School. He had a passion for hockey and played for the Wolfville Falcons as well as the Wolfville Suburban Hockey League. He was also a member of the Wolfville Volunteer Fire Department and the Wolfville Lions Club. Benny was an avid gardener and a handyman who could fix anything and if parts were not available, he would make them. In his later years, his greatest pride and joy was his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vivian (Kane) Barkhouse; sons, Tony (Jane), Kentville and their daughter, Jillian; Terry Barkhouse (Susan Maskell), New Minas and her children, Stacey and Lisa; Rick (Kathi), New Minas and their children, Justin, Logan and Jordan, New Minas; two sisters, Jean Spencer, Aylesford; Barbara (Donald) Barkhouse, Wolfville Ridge; two brothers, Gordon "Gordie" (Joyce), Gaspereau Mountain; LeRoy (Sandi), Gaspereau Mountain; a sister-in-law, Dianne Barkhouse, Gaspereau Mountain; a brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Arnold, Coldbrook; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, June Arnold; two brothers, Weldon and Harold "Junior"; a brother-in-law, Bill Spencer. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2016 in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
