Frederick Russell "Fred" Chisholm

Frederick Russell "Fred" Chisholm – 77, of Aylesford, was peacefully reunited with his wife, Ruth and joined his Saviour in Heaven on Sunday, May 29, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Frederick Russell and Ruth Ann (Young) Chisholm. Fred was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and father-in-law. He attended school in Berwick and Aylesford and graduated as a Pharmacist from Dalhousie University in 1965. He and his father owned and operated Chisholm’s Pharmacy in Aylesford until 1992, serving the community for 62 years. He served as a Municipal Councillor for 9 years, and was a member of many committees. He was chairman of the building committee at Grand View Manor during its construction, initiated the first Aylesford Board of Trade and was a member of the Valley Board of Trade. Fred was a dedicated member of the Aylesford Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and chairman of the finance committee. An avid sportsman, Fred was a director of the Paragon Golf and Country Club and manager of the Triple A Wildcats Hockey Team for 8 years. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was also president of the Maritime Appaloosa Horse Club and raised show horses. Fred was involved in politics with the Progressive Conservative party on both the provincial and federal levels. He is survived by a daughter, Heather (Chris) Palmer; Aylesford; two sons, Brian (Judy), Auburn; Brett (Melanie), Grafton; a sister, J. Lorraine (William) Beggs, British Columbia; 13 grandchildren; one great grandson. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 47 years, Ruth Ann (Sanford) Chisholm; a brother, Bob. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the Aylesford Baptist Church, where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, Reverend Clyde Lowe and Reverend Donald Rafuse officiating. Burial will take place in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held in the Aylesford Baptist Church. Donations in memory may be made to any one of Fred’s favourite charities. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
