Beverley Russell Sawler

Beverley R. "Bev" Sawler, Major (retired) - 86, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late George R. and Annie (Medicraft) Sawler. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major. He was a Squadron Leader, serving overseas during peace time. Over the past twenty years Bev had been a major part of the regular life and operation of both the Kings Historical Society and the Community and Family History Department.  He held many administrative positions including Treasurer (for both bodies), Chair of the Community and Family History Committee, and a member of long standing of the Board of Trustees of the Society. He is survived by a daughter,  Kathrin "Kim" Grace, Coldbrook; daughter-in-law, Christine, New Zealand; sister-in-law, Linda Sawler, West Brooklyn; grandchildren, Alexander Pittman, Kingston, Ontario; Geoffrey Pittman, Coldbrook; Liam and Maddie Sawler, New Zealand; brother, Lewis, North Alton. He was predeceased by his wife, Erna (Ells); son, Steven "Steve"; a brother, Donald. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A private family interment service will take place at a later date in the Bishopville Cemetery, Kings County. Special thanks to Bria Stokesbury, curator, Kings County Museum, "Reverend Kathy" Pharo and Linda Sawler for their many visits, kindness and support. Donations in memory may be made to the Kings Historical Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
