Margaret Duncan "Peggy" Manuel

Margaret Duncan "Peggy" Manuel – 97, of Dartmouth, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 in Maplestone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Agnes (Kinsman) Hardiman. She and her husband Laurie owned Manuel's Restaurant and later Manuel's Gift Shop in Canning. She had been a member of the former Trinity United Church, Canning, where she served as member of Session, Board of Stewards, secretary of the Manse Committee and a life member of the UCW. She was also a member of Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, and was a life member of the UCW. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of Glooscap Rebekah Lodge. Past District Deputy President and Past President of L.A.P.M. Halifax #1. She received the highest award for a Rebekah, the Decoration of Chivalry. Peggy was a member of Cornwallis District New Horizons and was keenly interested in handcrafts and gardening. She is survived and greatly missed by her daughter, Carol (John) Weare, Dartmouth; a son, William Laurie (Donna) Manuel, Milton, Ontario; a foster daughter, Janice (Allan) Oickle, Kentville; five grandchildren, Carolyn (Roger) Whidden, Middle Sackville; John (Jennifer) Weare, Ottawa; Brenda (Alan) Cabilan, Comox, BC, Ronald (Valerie) Manuel and Karen Manuel, both of Milton, ON; two foster grandchildren, Kim Hiscock, Kentville and Joseph (Tammy) Hiscock, Greenwich; eight great grandchildren; seven foster great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two foster great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie Manuel; two sisters, Frances (Charles) Greene and Mary Hardiman (in infancy); four brothers, Alexander (Harriett), James (Eileen), Douglas and John "Jack" (Mildred); a foster daughter, Leah Hiscock; a foster granddaughter, Lisa. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service and reception at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to the staff of Maplestone Enhanced Care and Dr. Lacas for their compassionate care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
