Douglas Victor Atwell

Douglas Victor Atwell – 61, of New Minas, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on the Melanson Mountain, he was a son of the late Victor and Laura (Brewster) Atwell. He had been employed with Acadia University as a custodian for over 30 years. He was a family man, jokester and liked to make people smile. He was an amazing harmonic player and enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He is survived by his spouse, Cindy Davison; daughters, Tara (Dylan), East Chezzetcook and Jennfier (Brian), England; a son, Douglas, Halifax; sisters, Goldie (Rob), Pearl (Floyd), Wanda (Daryl), Judy (Watson) and Ruby; a brother, Maynard; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia; brothers, Sherman, Junior and Garnet. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
