Valerie Edith Best

Valerie Edith Best – 74, of Prospect, Kings County, died July 16th, 2016. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Gordon G. and Dorothy E. (Andrew) Chetley. She had been employed with the New Brunswick Telephone Company and later joined the RCAF. She married Garnet and dedicated her time as a homemaker and stay-at-home mother.  Valerie has always contributed to her community, including; Welcome Wagon, Census, Election Polling, Teachers Aide, School Monitor, Open Acadia-Lifelong Learning program, and Bowling,   Her passion, however, was for Bridge.   This led her to become a Silver Life Master, a club certified Director of the ACBL, and a 5 Star ACBL accredited Teacher.  Upon coming to the Valley, Valerie took an interest in playing bridge at various clubs in the area, and became the Manager of the Ken/Wo DBC  for a couple years, then took over the Woodvale Club's Friday bridge game.  In time this became the Friday Bridge Club, which she owned and managed, as well as starting the Valley Bridge Club at her home.  Valerie taught over 300 people to play and enjoy Bridge.  She is survived by a son, Mark (Cindy), Cambridge; a daughter, Karen Tasse, London, ON; two grandchildren, Amanda and Michael; four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Garnet; a brother, Andrew. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, July 21st, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.  Family Flowers only.
