Gordon Walter Young

Gordon Walter Young - 94, passed away July 13, 2016 at Shannex - Blomidon Court, Greenwich. Born September 7, 1921 to the late Walter and Jennie (Eagles) Young, he lived his entire life in the family home in White Rock. Gordon was proud to be a farmer. In addition to owning and operating his own beef, poultry and forestry farm, he did custom corn harvesting, used his gravel truck to help construct the 101 highway in this area and in later years raised purebred hereferds, showing them in local exhibitions. He was a member of various committees and held different executive positions with the ACA, Kings County Woodlot Owners Association and the Farm Labour Pool. He enjoyed music and dancing and for many years he and Phyllis held square dances in their home during the winter months. Later they joined organized square and round dance groups. Gordon is survived by his wife of 74 years, Phyllis (Lenihan); daughters, Joyce (Gary) Creaser; Jackie (Leslie) Sheffield; grandchildren, Joel (Kim) Sheffield; Jordan (Eric) Armshaw; Nick (Erin Main) Creaser; Matthew (Stephanie) Creaser; and Jennilee (Scott) Batherson; great-grandchildren, Colin, Evan, Ailey, Kyler, Dylan, Owen, Noah, Oliver, Gennelle, and Quentin; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bill; brothers, Ernie and Bert; sister, Frances. There will be no visitation, by request. A Celebration of Life held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
