Jean Elizabeth Ross

One of Kentville’s oldest life-long residents passes away

Jean Elizabeth Ross - 96, of Kentville. It is with great sadness that Jean’s family announces her peaceful passing, with family by her side, on Monday, August 1, 2016 in Shannex-Orchard Court, Kentville. Born on January 4, 1920 in Forest Home, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Enos and Mildred (Chase) Bishop. Jean attended Kings County Academy and following her graduation, was employed with the Cornwallis Inn, Kentville. Soon after the outbreak of the Second World War, Jean met and married James (Dick). On his return from war service in Europe, they built a home on Chester Avenue, Kentville. Sadly, Dick died in 1959. She was a dedicated life-long member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, where she was involved with the A.C.W. and Bible study groups. Community minded, Jean was a proud supporter of the Town of Kentville.  She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Edward) Rice, Moncton, NB; Faye (Gerry) Martyn, Cherry Hill; Kathryn Ross-Laing, Kentville; three sons, Robert (Mary Ediger), Port Mouton; Bruce (Heather), Port Williams; Paul (Cindy), Kentville; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, James David Russell Ross; a sister, Louise Nixon; a sister, in infancy; and a son-in-law, John Laing.
