Cora Elsie Boates

1921-2016

Cora Elsie Boates
Cora Elsie Boates

In true Cora Elsie (Yuill) Boates fashion, she left this life on her own terms on Wednesday October 5th with grace and dignity, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Wife of the late Reginald Boates, loving mother to Shari (Bert) Frizzell and Margo (Harry) DeLong and better known to her grandchildren as "Nan"; Carrie (Michael) Cook, Ryan (Sarah Curry) Frizzell, Claire and Riley DeLong and great grandchildren Noah and Peter Cook. Cora grew up on a farm in Old Barnes Nova Scotia with her late parents, Harriet and Peter Yuill. She was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor, Ida "Gladys", Hilda, Dorothy and Elizabeth "Betty", and brothers Elmer and Donald. She is survived by sisters Margaret Lavers, Norma Mcgregor, Georgina Lawson, sister-in-law Isabelle Yuill and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from the Victoria General School of Nursing and went on to work at the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital where she was a dedicated nurse for many years before retiring. Cora loved to travel and enjoyed many tropical vacations with her husband Reg and dear friends Bill and Irene Mosher. An avid golfer, Cora was a long-standing member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club where she achieved a 'hole in one'. She was also a member of the Wolfville Curling Club and enjoyed games on the ice with friends. She loved sightseeing and would often take long drives with husband Reg. She cared deeply about her family and spent holidays and much of her retirement in their company. Her vivacious laugh and warm demeanour could light up a room. She will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her. Cora's family would like to thank all the dedicated nurses and doctors that provided unequivocal care to Cora. In particular they would like to thank Dr. Mullen, Dr. Merryweather, Dr. Gallant, Dr. Rutledge, Paulette Gash Palliative Care Coordinator, and all the support from the VON without whose help they couldn't have made this journey. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. October 13th in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 14th, 2016.
