Pauline Violet Worthylake – 92, of Kentville, Kings County, NS passed away Sunday Oct 9, 2016 at Valley Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in London, England on December 15, 1923, she was the daughter of Harry Portsmouth and Violet Butler. At eighteen years of age, she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force where she was in charge of a barrage balloon command. Near the end of WWII, she met her Canadian, Grant Worthylake and followed him to her new life in Canada, crossing on the Ile de France and landing at Pier 21. Pauline’s compassion for others was expressed through her volunteer work with many organizations, including the Lionettes, Hospital Auxilary, Kings Historical Society, and the local food bank. Her love of cooking was the impetus for many family gatherings. A prolific painter, she shared her work with family and friends, and was well-known as the Lupin Lady. She is survived by five children: Ian (Nancy), Kentville; Peter (Betsy), Kentville; Patricia deMolitor, Shelburne; Kathy (Jim) Corbett, Bridgewater; Michael (Nancy Pynch-Worthylake), Wolfville.  Also survived by her brother, Richard, Lincolnshire, England; brother-in-law, Gerald Fenemore, Harrow, England; sister-in-law Juanita Wilcox, Hantsport; sister-in-law Mavis Murray (Bob), Antigonish; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Grant; son Greg; brother Peter; sister Joan; brother-in-law Gerald; grandson, Simon. A celebration of Pauline’s life will take place October 15th at 2:00pm, White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. You are welcome to share memories you may have of Pauline at the celebration or by email. Donations in memory can be made to Valley Hospice Foundation or Valley Regional Library. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
