Marjorie Virginia McElmon

1923-2016

Marjorie Virginia McElmon

September 27, 1923 - October 14, 2016

Marjorie Virginia (McCarron) McElmon - It is with deep sadness that Marjorie's family announces her passing at Orchard Court, Kentville, shortly after her 93rd birthday. The daughter of the late John and Lavinia (McGuigan) McCarron, Marjorie was a life-long Haligonian, excepting a few years spent in Fredericton while her husband John attained his engineering degree. She attended St. Joseph's School and Miss Murphy's Business College and worked as a legal secretary before marrying and raising a family. When her children were older Marjorie reentered the work force. For about a decade she acted as administrative assistant to the chief archivist at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia. Throughout her life Marjorie was active socially and physically. She was a curler and avid golfer, regularly being among the early birds teeing off at Ashburn Golf Club. She had a flair for fashion and was a fan of Irish music and dance. Family was very important to her. She was predeceased by brother, Jack and sisters, Dorothy and Ruth (Sullivan); also by her husband, John McElmon and daughter, Judith (Brady), both in 2007. She is survived by daughter, Deborah (Tom Clahane), Wolfville; grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Autumn, Daniel, Jessica, and Julia; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Sincere thanks is extended to the wonderful staff of Orchard Court and to those whose help allowed Marjorie to live at home until the age of 90. Very special thanks to Rita Bellmont for her exceptional care and support. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 48 Belcher St., Kentville, with reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to any charity would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line inquiries and condolences may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
