Helen "Bernice" Ross

1937-2016

Helen "Bernice" Ross

Helen "Bernice" Ross - 79, of New Minas, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Sanford) Lockhart. With her husband Keith, long time owners of  local business, Ross Music Sales, Bernice was known to the many people who visited the shop over its years of operation as well as the multitude of friends she made as a result of the adventures that came their way through Keith's career as a musician. Bernice also made many friends through her church organization, F.I.R. She and Keith had the good fortune to travel to many parts of the world as a result of their success. Asia, Europe, the USA and especially her winter home in Rio Grande, Texas, where they spent many of the "chillier" Canadian months for the last several years. A desire for home in the last while saw the two of them return to Canada for good; embracing a nice cool respite from the heat in the south. Happy and content to be back near her loved ones, her days were filled with activity. Whether it was walking her special buddy Bandit, baking apple pies or knitting, she was certainly never bored. She was often on the go helping others, always kind and generous with a pure spirit. Most of all she treasured the good times spent with her cherished husband of 61 years as well as her son, daughter and grandson. She lived a full and wonderful life and was admired by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but will continue to inspire us all. She is survived by her husband, Keith; son, Gary (Beth Zwicker); daughter, Kim (Barry Bellefontaine); a grandson, Jeremy Ross. She was predeceased by a brother, William "Billy" Lockhart. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. No flowers, by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Kings County S.P.C.A., Ste. Croix United Church, a local food bank or a charity of one’s choice.
