Hazel Irene Shaffer

Hazel Irene (Corbett) Shaffer - 77, of South Alton, Kings County. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loving Mom and Nan, Hazel, at the QE2 surrounded by her family after complications from surgery. Hazel was born in South Alton. She was the daughter of William and Charlotte (Trahon) Corbett. In her younger years, she worked at Nova Scotia Sanatorium until her retirement in 1976 to care for her family. Mom loved her children and took exceptional pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always teaching the kids the little things in life and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anybody. She loved her friends and regularly attending the jams in various Communities. She thoroughly enjoyed feeding and watching her birds, camping in Digby, completing various crafts, and decorating for Halloween and Christmas, where she regularly won local community awards for best decorations. She is survived by her children, Derrick (Barb) and Darlene (Alan), South Alton, and Darren (Rachel) Yellowknife; grandchildren, Dana, Nicole, Aaron, Ryan, Evan, Cohen, and Hayden, great-grandchildren Lexi, Brody, and Nicole’s expected twins; special niece Wanda; sister, Shirley; brothers, Ronnie, Dickie, James, Harvey, and Eric, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by infant son Farrell; husband of 56 years, Hubert; sister, Kathleen; and brothers, Lawson and Paul. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville where the funeral service and reception will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the South Alton Community Centre.
