Lester "Vernon" Huntley

Lester "Vernon" Huntley – 80, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Nina (Goucher) Huntley. In his younger years, Vernon joined the Air Cadets where he was involved with the pipe band. He was employed as a meat cutter with Dominion Stores and Wades for 15 years and then worked with Weavexx for 30 years, where he also served as Union President, retiring in 2001. Vernon was a member of the Salvation Army, Kentville Corps, where he served as Band Master for 26 years. He enjoyed golf, singing and playing the guitar and violin. He also enjoyed selling Watkins Products door to door for a number of years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna (Mahar); two daughters, Catherine (Richard) Lyman, Acadieville, NB; Tara-Lee Cleveland, Waterville; five sons, Vernon "Tim" (Charlene), Halifax; Allen (Cheryl), Somerset; Michael, Berwick; Stephen (Cassie), Lower Sackville; David, Canmore, AB; a sister, Debi (Vincent) Sawler, Cambridge; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert and a sister, Rosalie, both in infancy. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Salvation Army, Kentville Corps, Captains Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Salvation Army, Kentville Corps, the VON Annapolis Valley or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the Valley Regional Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
