Alfred William West Jr.

Alfred William West Jr. – 80, of New Minas, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at home. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Alfred Sr. and Agnes (Fenton) West. He was employed as a master chef at Acadia University, and also worked as a master carpenter, building cabinetry. He loved cars and took great care of his vehicles. He enjoyed the older cars and could talk at great lengths about them. He read the newspaper daily, starting with the obituaries, then The Family Circle, and ended with a chuckle reading Dagwood. He loved and served the Lord, and was a member of the New Minas Baptist Church for almost 30 years. Alfred loved spending time with his family, especially the little ones. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Kathleen (Woodworth); children, Allan (Cheryl), Ontario; Pam (Richard) Butler, New Minas; John (Azucena), North Alton; a sister, Betty Fry, Halifax; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service and reception at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Burial will take place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. Donations in memory may be made to the New Minas Baptist Church or the Aylesford Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
