Elizabeth M. "Betty" Bishop

Elizabeth Minta "Betty" Bishop - 86, of New Minas, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Belleisle, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Leona (Halliday) Young. She was an honorary member of the New Minas and District Lioness Club, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Minas Fire Department, Meals on Wheels and a longstanding member of the High Tide Drifters camping club.  She was also a member of the New Minas Baptist Church for over sixty years.  She is survived by one daughter, Linda, Seaforth, Halifax Co.; three sons, Allan and wife, Debbie, New Minas; Michael and wife, JoAnne, Greenfield, Queens Co.; Daryl and wife, Lana, Bridgewater; sister, Maureen (Mrs. Clayton Buckingham), Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Donna (Mrs. Robert Taylor), Canning; sister-in-law, Faye (Mrs. Carl Young), Annapolis Royal; sister-in-law Audrey (Mrs. Stewart Young), Kentville; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Bishop, New Minas; four brothers, Reginald Young, Belleisle; Gerald and Kaye Young, Smiths Cove; Stewart Young, Kentville; Carl Young, Belleisle and three sisters, Loretta (Mrs. Short Barnes), Kentville; Christina (Mrs. Ira Sutherland), Belleisle; Joyce (Mrs. Edward White), Bridgetown. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sterling Gosman and Reverend Doctor Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Regional Residential Services Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
