Betty Irene Martin

Betty Irene Martin - 77, of Scots Bay Road, passed away on January 23, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born at Scots Bay Road on November 25, 1939, daughter of the late Joseph and Vera (Martin) Barkhouse. Predeceased by her husband, Wilber Martin; sons, Bruce and Calvin; daughters, Joanne and Jeanette (John) Saltzman; sister, Joan MacDonald. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Darrell) Ogilvie, Melissa (Tom) Johnson and Angelina, all of Kentville; son, Terry at home; sister, Muriel Martin, Sheffield Mills; brothers, Daniel (Shirley) Barkhouse, Scots Bay Road; John (Belle) Barkhouse, Steam Mill; Paul (Ardythe) Barkhouse, Centreville; six grandchildren, Thomas, Abigail, Joanne, Jonathan, Leah and Gregory; three great grandchildren, Taylor, Bryson and Isabelle. Betty was a homemaker who loved doing crafts and a fabulous knitter and crocheter. She enjoyed bluegrass and country/western music. She raised her granddaughter as well as foster children. There will be no visitation, by family request. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
