Harold Seward Feltmate

Harold Seward Feltmate - 88, of New Minas, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at home. Born in Eight Island Lake, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Seward and Tiny (Cummings) Feltmate. He graduated from Acadia University, Nova Scotia Normal College and Concordia University. Harold was a dedicated educator, retiring in 1985 after having an extensive teaching career. He served as principal in Guysborough, vice principal in Sherbrooke and taught in Lake of Two Mountains High School in the City of Two Mountains, as well as other schools. He also taught locally at Kings County Academy, Kentville and retired from Cornwallis District High School, Canning. He was a member of the New Minas Baptist Church. His faith in his Saviour and his desire to live for Him was the foundation and cornerstone of his life. His great joy was to share his faith with others. After retirement, he and his beloved wife Nan, lived in Guysborough and later New Minas, but always spent several months at their cottage at Eight Island Lake. Harold loved to spend his time working on his Christmas tree lots, which he did until his 80th year. He is survived by his wife, Nan; four sons, Grant, Timberlea; Darrell (Mary), Truro; Byron, Eastern Passage; Ian (Melanie), New Minas; one brother, Murray (Nell), Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Joyce and Vera, Goshen; Joyce and Minnie, Toronto. He was predeceased by five brothers, Arthur, Gordon, Merritt, Donald and Chesley. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Daniel Cormier and Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Argyle Sunset Cemetery, Goshen. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the New Minas Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
