Kenneth Russell Perkins

1933-2017

Kenneth Russell Perkins

It is with sadness and much grief the family of Ken Perkins say good bye to a man of love and devotion. Ken was a man of great faith, strong ethics and high character in family and work, leaving a legacy to his children. Ken was born and raised in Middleton and attended school there, excelling in sports from gymnastics to hockey. He worked 42 years for MT&T (Bell Aliant/Bell Canada) with perfect attendance. He worked in Construction Engineering in Halifax, Yarmouth, Bridgewater and Kentville. Ken loved his work! Anyone who knew Ken, knew hockey was his passion. He coached hockey for many years and played in various leagues in the valley and MT&T leagues in Halifax. He played gentlemens hockey at Acadia alongside his son Kevin until the age of 81, when he reluctantly hung up his skates. Ken also played baseball and was a great Red Sox fan. One of his happiest experiences was going to Boston with Selba to see them play. He was thrilled when they won the World Series in 2007. Another joy and accomplishment for Ken was running his kilometer with the torch for the 1988 Canada Winter Olympics in Lochaber, with Selba, Sarah and grandson Zachary along. Ken was well known for his building and woodworking skills. From design to construction there was not a project he could not make a reality. If someone had an idea or building project, Ken accomplished and probably improved upon it. He was an active member of his community. Ken is survived by his wife, Selba; his son, Kevin (Loretta); daughter, Sarah (Freeman) Perkins-Levy; grandchildren, Zachary (Dana), Saskatchewan; Hilary (Zachary) Arenburg, Kingston; Christopher, Glenmont; Ada May Levy and soon to arrive baby Levy; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Annabelle, Oliver, Violet and Kate; brothers, Murray, Ronnie, Doug (Carolyn), Frank (Mary) and Richard (Marilyn); sisters, Doris, Audrey, Elaine (Garnet) and Norma (Larry); brothers-in-law, Ronie (Donna), Donie (Vera), Garnet (Elaine), Winston and Kevin (Dawn Lee); sister-in-law, Wilma. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ada; sisters, Barb and Elizabeth; grandson, Nathan Perkins. Ken was proud of Kevin’s accomplishments in music and his work following in his footsteps. He was equally proud of Sarah’s accomplishments in education and especially giving him a new lease on life with Ada May, who brought much joy and entertainment to his days. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison officiating.
