Lawrence Derrick "Rick" Stewart

Lawrence Derrick "Rick" Stewart - 54, of New Minas, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Born in Windsor, he was the eldest son of Lawrence and Maxine (Langley) Stewart, New Minas. Rick attended Horton District High School and graduated from Kings Regional Vocational School, Kentville with a Stockroom and Inventory Control diploma. Rick was always interested in motor vehicles and had been employed for 10 years with Evangeline Motors, Coldbrook and then with Mosher Motors, Bridgewater for a short period of time. His most recent employment was as traffic control with G.K. Morse, until ill health forced him to retire. He was a former fire fighter with the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department for over 13 years. He was also a member of the Valley Lake and Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. He loved animals and was very fond of the family cat, Spookey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Carman (Kimberly) and his nephew Chris, whom he adored; uncles, Donald, Wilbert, Brian and Binnie; numerous cousins. He was predeceased by both his maternal and paternal grandparents. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service, by request. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department. Special thanks to Chief Jim Redmond of the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department and the New Minas Detachment of the RCMP at the time of his passing. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
