Robert Sheldon (Bob) Harlow

1937-2017

Robert Sheldon (Bob) Harlow

Robert Sheldon (Bob) Harlow passed away Monday, April 24 at home in Centerville, Nova Scotia at the grand age of 80.

He was married to Sandra Anne (Debbie) (nee DeBanks) for 57 years and was the father to daughters, Debby Lee and Carrie Lynn (d.) and son James Edward.  He has five wonderful grand children:  Alex, Stephen, Caleb, Madeleine and Mathias.

He was the loving son of Hazel and Loran Harlow and brother to James, Marjorie, Clifford, Daphne and Donald of Sable River West, Nova Scotia.

He was proud to have been born and raised in Sable River, Nova Scotia, a place he kept in his heart throughout his life.  He had many fond memories which he often shared with his family and friends.

Bob began his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked on flight simulators overseas in France. He eventually started his own business in the burgeoning Canadian high technology sector.  He was an innovator, designing and manufacturing computerized environmental monitoring systems, a unique achievement for Canadian business at the time.

He lived many years in Ontario, where he loved "life on the farm", raising pigs, chickens, cattle and dogs, bailing the hay in the summer and plowing the snow in the winter.  He gave his children a good life.   He made lifelong, solid friends and with Debbie shared numerous adventures and travels with them.

Bob eventually returned to Nova Scotia and spent many years enjoying a full life.  He spent much of his time riding his motorcycles with friends and restoring old Harleys. In particular he loved the company of his grandchildren.

He was always curious about life, science, history, how things worked and was constantly exploring different ideas.  He never shied away from a discussion or debate.

In his final years, he faced adversity with a positive determination, never giving up, making the best of his abilities and the situation at hand.  He was loved and he will be missed.

He will be buried in Sable River cemetery on Saturday, April 29 at 3 pm.  Friends of Bob who live in the Kentville area are planning a get-together to celebrate his life on Saturday evening, May 6 at the Cornwallis Inn, all are welcome.
