Helena Patricia Redden
1933-2017
Helena Patricia Redden, 84 – of Kentville, formerly of South Alton, passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, five weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Born in South Alton, she was the youngest daughter of the late Lewis and Mary (Murphy) Redmond. She was the last surviving member of her family. In her early years, Mom did one of the hardest jobs, she was a stay at home mom of six children. In her later years, she worked at the corner store in South Alton and did some home care. Mom spent many joyful years, along with Dad, bowling at the former Fairlanes in New Minas. After Dad passed in 2005, she continued to bowl. She enjoyed going out with her friends to the church breakfasts and community suppers. Every Friday, her daughter Carolyn would do her hair and she would go to the super store dinners in New Minas, never missing a Friday. She also played Kinsman TV bingo every Wednesday night. Mom will be missed by her friends and her children. She is survived by six children, Patsy (Harvey), Everett (Sue), Catherine (Bill), Pauline (Donald), all of South Alton; Diane (Tony), Greenwich; Carolyn (Brian), Kentville; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Chesley; son, Eric; sisters, Kathleen Frennette, Margaret Carter and Anna Whalen, Grace Ward; brothers, William, Vincent, Thomas and John; grandson, Eric. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday, May 4, 2017, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held, followed by a reception, at 2:00 pm on May 5, 2017 with Father Gerald Saulnier officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Mental Health - Kings County, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
