1928-2017

Richard Vincent "Dick" Moore

Richard Vincent "Dick" Moore - 88, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, Dick was a son of the late Charles and Lulu (Hushen) Moore. Following the Second World War, Dick served in the Merchant Navy for two years. Upon his return, Dick was employed with George T. Moore Plumbing and Heating where he learned the sheet metal trade. Dick had also been employed with VC Woodworth and Kent Field Estates. Dick retired as a Heating Contractor with Irving Oil. Dick was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for spending time at The Lake, with his family. He was an active supporter of many local sporting programs, coaching at every level of minor hockey, and serving as President of the Kentville and Area Minor Hockey Association for two terms, including the opening year of the Centennial Arena. He was recognized by the CAHA for Outstanding Service to Minor Hockey. Most would remember Dick with an instrument in hand as he loved to entertain. He was especially pleased to pass along his musical abilities to many of his family members. Above all else, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a man who loved well and was well loved. Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara (Gee); seven children, Pam (Jack) Hill, Parrsboro; Harry (Treasure), Kentville; Dennis (Sharon), Ottawa; Tom (Brenda), Canning; Mary Moore, Kentville; Chris, Kentville and Annette (Mike) Bobbitt, Port Williams; a brother, Everett (Millie), Coldbrook; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard "Dickie" and Kevin (in infancy); six sisters, Truth O’Rourke, Jessie Cross, Thelma Moore, Myrtle Bond, Marjorie Bond, June Moore and Dorothy Daigle; five brothers, Victor "John", Frederick, George, Harry and Murray "Mick".
