Gloria Faylene Greene

Gloria Faylene (Steele) Greene - 79, of Cape Blomidon, Kings County, passed away Thursday May 11, 2017, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Scots Bay, Kings County, she was the youngest child of the late Alvin and Eva (Huntley) Steele. Gloria was a faithful and active member in both the church and community. She was a dedicated member of the Pereaux United Baptist Church for decades, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Deacon and on countless other committees. In addition, she served on the Inter-Church Council and as Superintendent at the Sunday School in Blomidon. She was a long-serving member of the Canning Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Blomidon Women’s Institute and the Blomidon Ladies Auxiliary. As well, Gloria was an active volunteer in the local schools, including at the Glooscap library and on the CDHS Sports Banquet committee. Gloria was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lit up the room with her smile and laughter. She loved playing games, holidays, family get-togethers, camping, and any chance to spend time with her family. She never missed a Christmas concert, musical recital, play, soccer game or any other event that one of her family members was involved in. Gloria was an avid gardener, spending hours on end tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She also made the best bread anyone could ever imagine. She is survived by her children, Barry, Cape Blomidon; Marlene (Cameron) Lightfoot, New Minas; Paula (Rick Folker), Hants Border; Darryl (Patty Murray), Chatham, Ontario; brother, Homer Steele, Scots Bay; sisters-in-law, Florence Bancroft, Kentville; Flora Seamone, Bedford; Joan Lunn, Mount Denson. Nannie will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Ashley Greene, Matthew, Mark, and Luke Clarke, Charmaine (Morgan Boghean) and Gregory Lightfoot, Faylene (Bill Langthorne) and Johnathan Lunn and Candace Vaughan; great-grandsons, Linden Lightfoot and Jeremy Gertridge; step-granddaughter, Lindsay Folker; daughter-in-law, Dana Greene; and many special Steele and Greene family nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Bertram Norris Greene; daughter, Pamela Eva Clarke; granddaughter, Christine Elizabeth Lightfoot; brothers, Cecil, Frank and Lorris Steele; sisters, Bessie Taylor, Alice Barnett and Julia Sangster. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A celebration of Gloria’s life, followed by a reception, will be held at the Pereaux United Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017, with Reverend Doctor Mark Parent officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Blomidon Cemetery at Houston Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Pereaux United Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
