Max Whyte

1931-2017

Max Whyte

We, the family of Max Whyte, regretfully announce his passing on May 23rd, 2017 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. Born in Sydney Mines he was the son of the late John Whyte & Gladys Eveleigh. Dad was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A self taught carpenter, he built many homes around Cape Breton, despite his physical disability. Dad's greatest passion was playing his Gibson guitar and singing his favourite songs with family and friends. He also got great pleasure from playing music at various nursing homes. Dad is survived by his wife, Joan (Bennett) of sixty years and his daughters, Connie MacLean (Sid) Sydney Mines, Carole MacLean (Peter) Moncton NB, Colleen Jordan (Chris) Kentville , and Cindy Whyte (Sunil) Brampton, ON. Dad is also survived by his brother Reg (Yvonne) White, and sister Joan Gracie, as well as 12 grand children and 8 great grandchildren. Dad was predeceased by sisters, Girlena Leblanc, and Louise Cantwell and brothers, George, Cliff, and Duncan. Our Dad was a quiet soul who was always joking around. He was known for his wooden leg, burning your arm with the hot teaspoon and his love of candy. We know how much you loved us Dad and we are sure going to miss you. Cremation has taken place. A gathering will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines on Saturday June 3 from 2pm-4pm. Internment in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request a charitable donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the War Amps.
