Freda Georgina Fitch

Freda Georgina (Cook) (Bishop) Fitch – 95, of Cambridge, Kings County, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, June 5, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Hillgrove, Digby County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Annie (Young) Cook. She moved to the Annapolis Valley at a young age and graduated from Kings County Academy, later attending and graduating from the Provincial Normal College (Teacher College) and celebrated her 75th year as a teacher. She taught in many schools throughout Kings County, including Woodville, Coldbrook and Aldershot. Meeting former students was always a welcomed opportunity for conversation. She remained active and current with family and world events throughout her later years. Each new day was a celebration of life for her. Freda was a member of the Kentville United Baptist Church and a 65 year member of St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge No. 27, Kentville. She joined the lodge in 1952 and fulfilled all offices of the order including Past Noble Grand and received the Declaration of Chivalry, the highest award of the organization. Freda enjoyed knitting, especially socks and mittens for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In later years, she found great pleasure in filling her days with artwork, her paintings are displayed on the walls of many family and friends. She also enjoyed passing time with successfully completing the daily Cryptoquote. She is survived by daughters, Judith (Allan) Kennedy, Truro and Paula (Chris) Outhouse, Lawrencetown; son, Douglas (Cathy), Idaho; step-daughter, Judy Fitch, Dartmouth; step-son, Donald (Carmel) Fitch, Moncton; sister, Florence "Tiny" Zwicker, Cambridge; brother, Lloyd "Bruz" (Gail), Cambridge; grandchildren, Sarah, Allison, Rhonda, Robert, Patrick, Nicholas and Keenan; step-grandchildren, Hannah, Samuel, Steven, Robert and Amy; great grandchildren, Cohen, Cassie, Winston, Rylynn, George Allan, Kaiden, Kashius and Camryn; step-great grandchild, Adam; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred Bishop; her second husband, Frank Fitch; brothers, Bickford, Robert and Gordon. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, with a Rebekah Lodge service to be held at 6:00 p.m. The funeral survice will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor David Bielby officiating. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. All are invited to join the family at a reception to be held in the White Family Funeral Home, following the burial. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional Hospital and to the caregivers and staff of the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses for your dedicated and compassionate care.   Donations in memory may be made to Covenant House or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
