Frederick Melvin "Fred" Jones

Frederick Melvin "Fred" Jones – 68, of South Alton, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at home. Born in Kentville, he was the son of the late John and Freda (Smith) Jones. He had been employed with T.P. Calkin Ltd. and worked with the Department of Highways for over 30 years. Fred enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, fishing and working in the woodlot. He was a founding member of the Blue Mountain Longrifle Club, and was an active and passionate member of the Black Powder Community throughout the Maritimes. He was also a member of the Kings County ATV Club and the Kings County Wildlife Association. Fred had a love for animals and his community. He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Brent) O’Connor, Kentville; his grandson, Timothy; his partner, Lorraine; his sister, Sandra (Merle "Rick") Hansen, South Ohio; his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (DeAdder) Jones; his sister, Susan. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, Reverend Leon Langille and Reverend Virginia DeAdder officiating. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association, the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
