Carolyn "Joan" Crosby

1954-2017

Carolyn "Joan" Crosby

Carolyn "Joan" Crosby, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS, with her daughters by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Berwick, NS on November 13, 1954, she was a daughter of Millicent Redden and the late Lorimer Redden. Joan will be missed by all her family and friends, especially her girls, Megan Crosby, Moncton, and Danielle (Scott) Oxner, Hantsport.  Easton and Brantley, her grandsons whom she loved dearly, will miss story and puzzle time with their Nanny. Joan was a compassionate, patient, and loving teacher who enjoyed teaching at Berwick Elementary and Cambridge Elementary Schools.  She retired early after 19 years due to her Muscular Dystrophy but never lost her desire to be in the classroom. Diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy in her early twenties, Joan defied the odds every single day. She loved her outings with her friend Victor, who brought love and light to her life in many ways.  Joan always saw the good in everyone, was selfless in her actions, and brave beyond belief.  She never complained throughout any of her battles, especially her recent one with cancer.  All of Joan’s friends and family, especially her girls, admired her courage and strength. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.  A celebration of life, followed by a reception, will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. in the Berwick Baptist Church.  Private family burial will follow in the Berwick Cemetery.  Donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada (www.muscle.ca). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
