Edna Martha Fenton

Edna Martha Fenton (Nee Hogg), aged 94, died on July 18, 2017. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on May 11, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Donald Jenkins Hogg and Fay Levinia (Hopkins) Hogg (nee Nickerson). She was also predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John Graham Fenton in 1997. Sadly her youngest child, David Graham Fenton passed away July 31, 2017 in British Columbia. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Donald Hogg (1975) and his wife Lenora (2003) of Bridgewater NS, her sister Louise Evelyn Hogg (1997) of Sudbury, ON, her sister Lillian Alice Seawright (2011) and her brother-in-law Albert (2006) of Sudbury, ON and her brother Leslie Marshall Hogg (2010) of Port Hope, ON. She is survived by her brother Wentworth James Hogg (Amy) and her sister-in-law Eunice Hogg. Also by her daughter Judith Edwina Richards (Daniel), son Michael John Fenton and by grandsons, Jason Graham Howe Richards, Kevin Daniel Crawford Richards (Sarah) and Corey Nairn Fenton. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Anna Isabelle Richards, Maxwell Jason Richards, Travis James Kinnear Richards and Mia Alma Crawford Richards; many nieces and nephews. Edna had a lovely singing voice and sang with many choirs over the years. She sang with her twin sisters Lillian and Louise at the supper club in the Yarmouth East Camp Training Facility during WWII. This is where she met John, a pilot with the British Royal Navy. They married and moved to England after the war ended. When they returned to Canada in 1947, they brought Judith with them. They lived in Toronto where Michael was born and then London ON where David joined the family. They lived the longest period of time in Pointe Claire, Que. After raising her children, Edna went to work at Bell Canada head office in Montreal. She moved to Montreal Trust Co. and transferred with this company to Toronto when her husband's head office moved to Toronto. She was employed there until retirement. These work opportunities stirred her interest in investing. Edna was talented with her hands. Sewing, knitting, braiding rugs, needlepoint and crafts were all skills in which she excelled. She made dozens of "Barbie" outfits from leather purses to lingerie for church bazaars. She made imaginative Christmas decorations and many other crafts. Edna had an amazing green thumb with all outdoor plants. Although she said she could not grow houseplants, she could stick clippings from her shrubs in the earth and grow new bushes. She enjoyed delivering cuttings from her shrubs to shut-ins, such as forsythia in the spring and holly at Christmas time. She was interested in nature, bird watching and painting. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Cremation has taken place.
