Rita-May Munro

Rita-May Munro (McEwen) – 93, passed away peacefully in Halifax on August 30th, 2017. Born in Winnipeg, MB, June 18th, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Norman McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) and Florette Nobert (Toronto, ON). She was an active Life Member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 60 years. She was involved in the Music Ministry for most of her life, as organist and choir director on military bases, and in later years as Cantor in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kentville. Throughout her life, her greatest joys came from spending time with her husband of 67 years, Jim, her children, 40 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. Rita-May is survived by her 10 children including sons, James Munro (Jane), ON; Peter Munro (Marlene), BC; John Munro (Fran), NS; Paul Munro (Judi), BC; daughters, Catherine (Dr. Bill) MacGillivray, NB; Mary-Pat (Dale) Hawley, NS; Marita (Don) Comeau, AB; Susan (Lewis) MacKinnon, NS; Carolyn (Brian) Woodward, NH, USA; and Laura (George) Carmichael, NS; sisters-in-law, Margot Munro and Marie McEwen; devoted niece, Jan Thompson; niece, Elizabeth Nelson; and many other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Rita-May was predeceased by her husband, Jim; brothers, Fred and John and sister, Margaret; granddaughter, Brianne; and infant grandsons, Jimmy and Michael. Our beloved mother and grandmother will always be remembered for her warm heart, her unconditional love and her ongoing support for her family. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 4, 2017 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception will follow in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. Burial will take place at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
