John Frederick "Jack" Lockhart

John Frederick "Jack" Lockhart - of Wolfville, formerly Avonport, passed away peacefully, Monday, September, 4, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with family at his side, following a brief fight with cancer. He remained a faithful Christian, hoping to witness to people right to the end. Jack was born on March 31, 1944 in Wolfville to the late Murray and Ellen "Nellie" (MacIntosh) Lockhart, Avonport. He is survived by his loving wife, Regina; precious granddaughters, Samantha (Aaron) Boswell of Vancouver, BC; Sydney and Jayden of Stonewall, MB;  daughter-in-law, Shelley Lockhart, Stonewall, MB; great grandsons, Owen and Theodore "Teo" Boswell, Vancouver, BC; his very special "Friday" granddaughters, Pheida and Norah Delaney, Port Williams; siblings, Neil (Sharon), Don (Glenda), Jim (Linda), Kathy (Jack) Hayward, Beth (Murray) Corbin; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and several great grand nieces and nephews; foster sister, Shirley Principi; foster brother, David Butler; as well as sisters-in-law, Frances (Alfred) Gentile, Patricia (David) Grainger, Beverly Eastman and Alberta Forsythe. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by son, Kerry Addison; daughters, Jacqueline Cecilia (in infancy) and Andrea Karen; sister-in-law, Jean Allen. He was a Born again Christian and former member of the Avonport United Baptist Church. He served the church for a short time as leader of the boy’s youth group Sigma-C and several years on the Board of Trustees. He was founder and past president of the Avonport Men’s Club Society and former player and past president of the Valley Orthodox Softball League. Jack bowled for many years in the Hantsport Men’s Bowling League, and was a proud member of The Old Farts Club, Avonport. He was a 10 year canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and he volunteered with the Red Cross at Camp Aldershot during the 1998 Kosovo refugee crisis. Jack was an electrician during most of his working years, working with several electrical contractors in the valley. After his retirement his passion became genealogy and historical data. He delighted in dowsing for unmarked graves with his cousin Walter Urban, and was delighted that through his genealogical research, he connected with his cousin, Don Lockhart, USA. His "Tim’s runs" with his "Best Bud" Marshall was always a highlight of his days. He was definitely a "Jack of all Trades" and was always willing to give a hand to anyone who asked for or needed it. The family would like to thank the great staff on Med A at Valley Regional Hospital for the amazing and compassionate care they gave Jack and showed to the family. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gary Manthorne, Reverend Gordon Delaney and Jack’s grandson-in-law, Pastor Aaron Boswell will officiate. Family flowers only, by request. Interment will take place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. Please make donations exclusively to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Stephen Russell Cystic Fibrosis Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
