1925-2017

Dorothy Audry White-Viger

Dorothy Audry White-Viger - January 18, 1925 - October 15, 2017, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is survived by her five children and eleven grandchildren, Mitzi (Bob), Cole, and Celia DeWolfe; Neal (Helen Green), Catherine, and Erin Viger; Lester, Morgan, Connor, and Noelle Viger; Leon, Marcus, and Kate Viger; Chris (Judy Gorman), Dan, and Torin Viger. Dorothy was born in Toronto and spent most of her childhood in Chicago. At age 14 she moved to North Bay, Ontario with her mother Lorance. After high school she trained as a flight nurse and served in the Korean War. While stationed in the Yukon, Dorothy met her late husband Chopin Viger. Married in 1956, the next 18 years were a whirlwind of activity, raising her family on military bases across Canada and Europe, while she continued with nursing work, organized numerous events and committees for the military wives, and pursued her passion for writing by contributing to local newspapers. In 1974 she embarked on a new adventure as a partner in a Canadian Tire franchise, bringing her to Nova Scotia in 1977, which she embraced as her new home. Dorothy was a cancer survivor and took to walking daily as part of her recovery. She was an Olympic torchbearer for the 2002 winter Olympics. She loved sketching and painting, was an avid world traveler, and actively involved in the community. Mom treasured time with her family; she was loved, and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at Medical B at the AVRH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A service for Dorothy will be held at the White Family Funeral Home in Kentville, October 19, 2017 at 11am.
