Doris Marie Veinot - 96, of Kentville, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 with her daughters by her side in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Inglisville, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Primrose Percy and Katheryn (Daniels) Whitman. At the age of 17, she was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College, Truro. She then taught at a number of schools, beginning in Greenwich and retiring from Aldershot Elementary. She was a 72-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron. She was also a member of the Kentville United Baptist Church and a member of the former Dorcas Society. Doris was an original member of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and one of the original residents of Kings Riverside Court, Kentville. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Wally) Jarvis, Centreville, Kings County; Susan (Ken) Miles, Kentville; a sister, Hilda Naugler, Paradise, Annapolis County: three grandchildren, Sarah Miles, Toronto; Cameron Miles, Halifax; Robbie (Manuela) McMaster, Porter’s Lake; a son-in-law, Robert (Linda) McMaster, Dartmouth; two great granddaughters, Catherine McMaster and Rebecca McMaster, both of Porter’s Lake; a great great grandson, Braxton; two step grandsons, John (Amy) Jarvis, England; Steven, Halifax; a step great grandson, Henry Jarvis; and a brother-in-law, Bud Gillrie, Fredericton. She was predeceased by her husband, J. G. "Mike" Veinot; two daughters, Catherine Rose McMaster and Elizabeth Ann Veinot; two sisters, Evelyn Richardson and Kathleen Gillrie; and a brother, John Roland Whitman. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2107 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a combined Order of the Eastern Star service and funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017, Reverend Elizabeth Johnson and Reverend Doctor David Bielby officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. A reception will follow in Kings Riverside Court, 125 Webster Street, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or Camp Brigadoon. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
