George Harold Chisholm

1944-2017

George Harold Chisholm

George Harold Chisholm – 73, of Keddy’s Corner, Kings County, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late John and Leah (Veinott) Chisholm. George was employed with the Dominion Atlantic Railway for 18 years and was the last locomotive mechanic (machinist) on the DAR in Kentville. He was then self-employed in the auto body business for 20 years. He was a member of the Melva C. Walker Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, a former member of the Canning Lions Club as well as the Coldbrook and District Lions Club, a past member of the Annapolis Valley Gun Club and a member of the Kentville Knights of Columbus. George was especially fond of dogs and considered each one of his dogs as ‘his best bud’. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to go boating and camping for as long as he could. As his faith in God matured and grew stronger, his greatest hope was that others would accept Christ as Lord and Saviour and receive salvation. Through his many health issues over the last twelve years, he acknowledged the strength to fight on through his personal relationship with the Almighty God. His sense of humour, infectious smile and wit will always be remembered by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (Hatt); a sister, Josephine (William) Forbes, Cambridge, Kings County; a brother, Donald (Donna), Cambridge, Kings County; a sister-in-law, Pat Chisholm, Truro. He was predeceased by three brothers, Archibald James, William Anderson "Bill" and John Bernard "Bun". Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held from 6–8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville with prayers to be held at 8:00 p.m. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father John MacPherson officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Halifax Branch. George’s wife, Carol, would like to extend a special thank you for the compassionate care given to George by Dr. Chris King. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
