Irene "Ellen" Saunders

Irene "Ellen" Saunders – 77, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Born on November 3, 1940 in Nictaux South, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Irene (Whitman) Nixon. She is survived by her husband, Earle Saunders; her children, Robert (Debbie) Saunders, Kanata, ON; Mary (Brian) Low, Kentville; grandchildren, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Saunders, Halifax; Jacob and Jessica Low, Kentville; brother, Jack (Linda) Nixon, Perth, ON; sister Ann (Yves) Cliche, Nictaux Falls; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ashlyn Low. She served as a Deacon at Cambridge Baptist Church as well as numerous boards and committees. Although family was her priority, she was always there to lend a hand to those in need. She was an avid knitter, who regularly donated items to the IWK. She was a collector of Depression Glass and enjoyed aquasize, craft group and the great outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and hiking with Earle. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of life service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 in the Cambridge Baptist Church, Reverend Darryl Dykens officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Cambridge Baptist Church, Hope for Wildlife, or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Michael Sinclair and the staff of the Valley Regional Hospital.
