Beverly Roy Buchanan

Beverly Roy "Bev" Buchanan – 71, of Hantsport, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at home. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Roy and Mabel (Bell) Buchanan. Bev was raised in Kentville and attended Kings County Academy (up on the hill). In his younger years, he was active in many sporting activities including golf, hockey and baseball, playing with the Kentville Wildcats and later coaching ball for the Hantsport Minor League. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the Dominion Atlantic Railway as a Relief Station Agent and then transferred to Saint John, NB working with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He then joined J. D. Irving Sawmill Division, where he was in charge of transportation. This led to his eventual position with Canadian Keyes Fibre, Hantsport, as Traffic Manager, from where he retired. He was a member of Avon United Church, Hantsport where he served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards. He is survived by his wife, Myrna (Campbell); two children, Colin (Amanda) Buchanan, Kingston, ON; Jennifer (Jarred) Brown, Lockhartville; a brother, Barry (Mary) Buchanan, North Alton; three grandchildren, Logan, Shianna and Cohen; an aunt, Joyce Sloan, Harvey, NB; nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 in Avon United Church, Hantsport, Reverend Beth Johnston officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. A reception will follow in the Avon United Church Hall. Donations in memory may be made to Avon United Church, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
